More than one third of employers don’t understand the new GCSE grades which come out next month according to a report by the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and Pearson. And 28 per cent of those who say they do understand, think that grade 1 is the top grade when 9 is the number awarded to the top performers and 1 the lowest.
It’s clear there needs to be greater awareness amongst employers about the new grading system which replaces the A*-G grades when results are announced on Thursday 24 August. The new grades, announced back in 2013, were introduced to drive up standards in education; schools and colleges have been sent information packs to give teachers, pupils, parents and employers, and Factsheets for employers, further and higher education providers can be found on the Gov.uk website.
