Every pupil, and their parents, should have access to good quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities. They will need the support of an informed adviser to make best use of available information.
Good Career Guidance, Gatsby Charitable Foundation
Our experience and knowledge extends to providing support around careers resources in schools and colleges. Statutory guidance from the Department for Education includes reference to the provision within schools for ‘information on the range of education or training options, including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways’ but we understand how difficult it can be for careers staff to develop good careers and labour market information for students especially with limited time and budgets.
Keeping on top of new and updated resources isn’t easy but ‘soft’ information found in many careers resources means it’s important to maintain an up-to-date collection of hard copy and online resources. A broad range of resources which meet the needs of all students will help to raise aspirations and can have a positive impact on pupil outcomes.
We can help by suggesting ways in which you can:
- organise and maintain careers resources including setting up a Virtual Learning Environment
- purchase the right resources for your school or college
- help to educate students on how to use the resources
- promote your resources across the school and to parents and widen access
If you’re working towards, or considering a Quality in Careers Award you’ll be aware that good practice around careers and labour market information is an essential part of successfully gaining accreditation.
